Abstract
This study examines the relationship of humble leadership to employee performance using learning goal orientation as mediator and also looks at the moderating role of task challenges. Results of 203 samples revealed that learning goal orientation mediated the influence of humble leadership on employee performance, including proficiency, adaptivity, and proactivity. Furthermore, employee’s task challenges moderated the relationship between humble leadership and employee’s learning goal orientation. On the basis of the findings, we conclude that the connection between humble leadership and employee performance yields a pattern of moderated mediation. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
