Abstract

The current "College English Curriculum Requirements" has pointed out the direction for the reform of college English teaching. Content-based instruction (CBI) advocates combining subject content and language learning, which is an effective way to achieve the college English teaching objectives. CBI originated from the immersion teaching method adopted in Canada in the late 1960s and was introduced into China in the 1990s. CBI teaching philosophy is a teaching method that achieves the purpose of language acquisition through subject content teaching. It pays attention to the needs of learners in the learning process and the choice of learning materials, which provides a good reference for college English teaching.
