Abstract
Existentials, which play an irreplaceable role in daily communication sentences, are a kind of special syntactic structure in both English and Chinese. Taking a cognitive perspective, this paper conducts a contrastive analysis of the existential sentences in terms of visual perception, mental perception and information encoding, in the hope of finding out the similarities and differences between them.
