Abstract

Hua County Shadow Play is the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage selected for the drama, and has extensive influence throughout the country and the world. Hua County Shadow Play is a kind of “playing” art. It has the characteristics of story, performance, non-intuitiveness, immediacy, comprehensiveness and craftsmanship. It is also a “trolling” drama with expressiveness. The ideographic and suggestive characteristics; the "knocking out" of the play means that it is dominated by percussion instruments; the "doing" out of the play means that the Hua County shadows are hand-made by the artists. In terms of spiritual attributes, Hua County's shadow art has placed people's spiritual cravings and strong desires beyond reality, which is a powerful refraction of the Qindong people's spiritual world.
