Abstract

The continuous development of new energy power generation, including wind and solar energy, is propelled by the the gradual transition to clean low carbon sources in global energy structure. Nonetheless, the intermittent, variable, and low-inertia property of new energy power generation is distinct from the controlling means of the traditional generation system with synchronous generators as the mainstay; thus making safety and stability problems as well as poor power quality. This paper analyzes the basic requirements of new energy power generation safety and stability, discusses the problem of related power quality, points out the main contradictions in grid-connected operation of new energy, and gives targeted countermeasures. It serves as a reference for the reliable operation of power systems with high penetration of new energy integration, and supports the safe and efficient development of new energy power generation in the process of energy transformation.
