Abstract

Modern architectural design has actually entered a stage of convergence in terms of feature, social function and modern technology under the background of globalization, as well as some regional qualities have begun to weakens. Architecture you may have noticed becoming less and less culturally expressed. With the power of historical memory and social identity, regional culture is a shared challenge for both academic and professional world: how to effectively preserve or innovate them in new architectural design. The study systematically explores regional culture integrated into modern architectural design innovative mechanisms and practical paths, advocating for a contemporary expression of regional culture. The study begins with exploring the mutual influence of regional culture and modern architecture, as well as their competing essences and possible blends. Then put forward three new mechanisms: the mechanism of recreating symbols and artistic conception, the mechanism of inheriting innovating materials and craftsmanship, the multi-stakeholder collaboration mechanism to explain its inherent logic in design practice. Finally, based on typical situations such as urban public buildings, residential architecture and landscape space, this paper summarizes the practical paths and application strategies for different building types on regional culture. It shows that when regional culture is effectively integrated, it will not only improve the cultural depth and artistic value of architectural works but also enhance public cultural identity and belonging, which provides theoretical basis and practical experience for modern architecture to sustainable development. It will provide architects and practitioners with some informative reflections for the creative changes of traditional region culture and development in contemporary architectural design.
