Abstract
Among many teaching methods, the application and practice of translation theory plays an important role in ELT. This article introduces the importance of translation theory in ELT and points out its positive role in improving students' language skills and cultivating cross-cultural awareness. Then, by analyzing the application of translation theory in reading, writing, oral English, vocabulary and culture teaching, it reveals its multi-dimensional effect in improving students' comprehensive English ability. In reading teaching, translation theory helps students to deeply understand the meaning and cultural background of the text; In writing teaching, it guides students how to transform Chinese thinking into authentic English expression; At the same time, translation theory also plays an indispensable role in oral English and vocabulary teaching. The application and practice of translation theory in ELT is of great significance for improving students' comprehensive English ability and cross-cultural communication ability.
