This paper takes the documentary Peng Guochen, a Veteran of the Sichuan Army as an example and studies the processing and transformation of cultural elements in documentary translation. In the translation process, the translator needs to make appropriate adjustments according to the language and cultural background of the target audience, and also needs to fully consider the audience’s acceptability and cultural background to avoid over-localization or over-westernization. First, this paper analyses the cultural elements in documentaries; then, it discusses the factors that should be considered in translation, and in the specific translation practice, translators need to use various translation strategies to adapt to the needs of the target culture; finally, it summarizes the issues that need to be paid attention to in the translation process and provides some useful experiences and references for documentary translation.
