In the process of curriculum teaching, due to the influence of various factors, some ideological and political teachers in higher vocational colleges lack correct cognition of practical courses and clear ideas in the process of practical teaching, which seriously restricts the effective improvement of teachers’ teaching ability. Therefore, this paper makes a detailed analysis on the effective ways to improve the practical teaching ability of ideological and political teachers in higher vocational colleges, and lays a solid foundation for the further improvement of teachers’ practical teaching ability through the continuous optimization of teachers’ traditional teaching ideas, broadening practical teaching channels and improving the assessment and evaluation mechanism.
