Abstract
Faced with the political demands from the times, for the monarch’s primary identity, Machiavelli, an Italian statesman, proposes to use politics to control morality, while Mencius, the lesser sage of the Chinese Confucian school, advocates to use morality to control politics. In the historical time and space, the balance of the monarch’s identity between politics and morality provides much food for thought.
