Abstract

Owing to their light, low-carbon nature, plant fibers are recognized as the material for future automotive. The idea was applied to hydraulic elevators as a kind of vertical automotive. By comparing the densities and carbon intensities of different currently used plant fibers, hemp was selected as the potential substituting material. By calculating the relative mass of cars in hydraulic elevators made by stainless steel and hemp fibers, the amount of electricity cost saved by making different types of hydraulic elevators lighter was estimated.
