Abstract

Based on agency theory and resource dependence theory, combined with the survey data of a sample of 2812 Chinese A-share listed companies from 2015 to 2019, use OLS regression to explore the differences of the board of directors and the exploitative innovation, exploratory innovation and ambidextrous innovation of enterprises. And on this basis, it analyzes the mediation role of resource redundancy and resource flexibility, as well as the moderating role of network centrality. The research found that: board of directors' differences inhibit exploitative innovation, exploratory innovation and ambidextrous innovation; resource redundancy plays a part of the mediation role in the influence of board of directors' differences on exploitative innovation, exploratory innovation and ambidextrous innovation; resources flexibility plays a part of intermediary role in board differentiation and developmental innovation; network centrality eases the negative relationship between board diversity and resource redundancy, but also intensifies its negative relationship with resource flexibility. The research expands the scope of the relationship between board diversification and ambidextrous innovation theory, and provides an empirical reference for the scientific board governance of enterprises.
