Abstract
This paper attempts to make an analysis of the functions of narrative time in William Faulkner’s short story “A Rose for Emily” from the narratological perspective. Through construing the discordance between narrative time and story time, it explores the indispensable role of narrative time in setting a series of suspenses, constructing Emily’s identities in a dynamic way, and revealing the themes relating to time, thereby highlighting the inseparability of the story’s form and content.
