Abstract

This paper elaborates the necessity of offering sign language interpretation program from the perspectives of the language status of sign language, the rights of the deaf, the needs of the deaf and the situation of sign language interpretation in China. It is hoped that the life of the deaf or hearing-impaired people can be improved with the help of more professional sign language interpreters, while paving the way for the professionalization of sign language interpretation.
