Abstract
To interpret the symbolic culture of Japanese diet, this paper uses the theories and approaches of Symbolic Anthropology, takes the dietary activities in Japanese annual events as examples, illustrates the symbolic meanings of food and analyses the ideological origins, which are belief in animism and belief in Ujigami.
