Abstract

With the rapid economic development of China, national leaders have paid more and more attention to the development of educational undertakings in China. In order to allow the educational undertakings in China to keep in step with the era development, and in order to realize sustainable development of China, China has reformed basic education curricula since the beginning of the 20th century, which is a profound reform in the field of basic education. The reforms of educational thoughts and educational ideas have also led to the reforms of teaching contents and teaching methods. In the context of educational reform, English teaching has also developed well in colleges and universities, and has changed fundamentally in terms of curricula, teachers, students, teaching, evaluation, etc. This paper first illustrates the development trend of new English teaching ideas in colleges and universities in the context of educational reform, including course objectives, teaching contents and teaching methods, then analyzes the new development of English teaching in colleges and universities in the context of educational reform respectively from the perspectives of professional quality of teachers, English teaching methods, English learning resources, English examination system, and teaching inside and outside English class, and provides a theoretical basis for building English teaching models in colleges and universities in the context of educational reform.
