Abstract
In “Friend”, the humorous dialogues and witty humorous words catch the audience’s eye. Applied to the face-to-face and negative sides of face theory, people can interpret the processing mechanism of verbal humor, which help reader have a better understanding of verbal humor. Verbal humor is the lubricant of language communication, making conversations seem interesting and become dynamic. The humorous dialogue in the play offers a lot of materials for pragmatic research and analysis of verbal humor.
