Abstract
Speaking of intermediality in cinema, Jean Cocteau, an artist whose art and life have revealed much about the interrelationship between reality and transcendence, between film and fine arts, as well as the topic of collective art and artistic democracy, cannot be eluded. This paper puts Cocteau’s films and their decisive moments back to the filmmaker’s account and a larger background of dialectical thinking and community/democratic education, thereby providing new ways to understand one of the greatest artists of the 20th century and his work.
